Seymour school board approves $3.81 million in construction awards, including tennis courts and school renovations

The Seymour Community Schools board unanimously approved four major construction contracts totaling $3,811,758: a $405,500 roof replacement at Jackson Elementary, a $338,329 roof replacement at Seymour High School and Seymour Intermediate, $896,400 for Seymour High School tennis courts, and $2,171,529 for Seymour Middle School administration renovations. The board also approved $278,286.41 in construction payments and accepted more than $1.16 million in state and federal grants. Other outcomes included approval of 2026 summer school programming, personnel changes, and a new mental-health services contract. • Seymour school board awarded four construction contracts totaling $3,811,758: $405,500 to SPG Roofing & Exteriors for Jackson Elementary’s roof; $338,329 to Royalty Roofing USA for roofs at Seymour High School and Seymour Intermediate; $896,400 to King’s Trucking & Excavation for the high school tennis courts; and $2,171,529 to Goecker Construction for Seymour Middle School administration renovations. Each vote passed 5-0.
• Seymour school board approved $278,286.41 in construction claims, invoices and payment applications, including $138,100 to Driftwood Builders under the 2025 bond and $69,868.64 for the Seymour High School/Seymour Intermediate lease-rental project.
• Seymour school board: The district accepted $1,167,727.16 in grants: $56,657 for High Ability, $874,212.27 for Title I, $170,151.13 for Title II, and $66,706.76 for Title IV. The vote passed 5-0.
• Seymour school board approved 2026 summer school programming options and locations by a 5-0 vote.
• Seymour school board approved a contracted mental-health services arrangement with Abby Parkes through Health First Indiana for Seymour High School from March 1, 2026, through May 31, 2027, with permission to hire before the next meeting pending a completed background check.
• Seymour school board approved the retirement of 12 employees, eight resignations, numerous appointments, one transfer and several leaves of absence. Dave Papenhaus was appointed as Seymour High School varsity football coach and secondary teacher, with the teaching appointment effective Aug. 3, 2026.
• Seymour school board accepted $2,500 donations each for the Seymour High School band and choir, a $250 classroom grant for construction trades, and a tool donation from Tractor Supply for construction trades classes. Each action passed 5-0.
• Seymour school board: The district announced kindergarten registration roundup for April 7, 2026. A snow make-up/in-session day is scheduled for April 3, and spring break is listed for March 16-20, 2026.
