Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approves $1.96 million in claims, including $3,325 high-school gas-leak repair

Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved payment of $1,956,070.40 in claims and payroll at its September meeting, including a $3,325 repair for a gas leak at the high school. Brownstown Central Community School Corporation also approved 22 field trips, four facility-use requests, eight resignations, seven recommendations, one transfer and one leave of absence pending documentation, plus updates to NEOLA policy volume 38, number 2. The corporation reported an $86,000 school-safety grant, a $5,000 T-Mobile athletics grant and plans to submit a Lilly Opportunity to Learn grant application by Sept. 15; the potential first-year planning award was described as $75,000. Brownstown Central Community School Corporation also said it intends to release any interest in the former Bolivar gym property to Driftwood Township through a quitclaim deed, without a vote. No tax or fee changes were reported.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved $1,956,070.40 in total claims, payroll and payroll claims. The approved claims included $14,137.50 for IXL Learning, $2,976 for elementary-school playground mulch and $9,000 for surveying and engineering work on a new lot.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved a $3,325 invoice to repair a gas leak at the high school. The merchandise allocation balance was reported as falling from $82,321 to $78,996 after the repair.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved 22 field-trip requests covering FFA, YoJack, career and technical education, special education, elementary grades, art, band and other programs.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved four facility-use requests, including use of the auditorium, elementary gym, high-school cafeteria and an April 21-24 auditorium booking for Tammy’s Dance.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved personnel actions consisting of eight resignations, seven recommendations, one transfer and one leave of absence. The leave remained subject to receipt of required documentation.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation approved the second reading of NEOLA policy updates, volume 38, number 2.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation said it intends to execute and record a quitclaim deed releasing any interest it may have in the former Bolivar gym property at the 2000 block of South Main Street to the Driftwood Township trustee. No vote was taken.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation reported receiving an $86,000 school-safety grant, down from $92,000 the prior year, and a $5,000 T-Mobile Friday Night Lights grant for football equipment or athletic facilities.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation planned to submit a Lilly Opportunity to Learn grant application by Sept. 15. The superintendent said the grant could provide $75,000 in the first year for planning to address nonacademic barriers such as food, mental-health and physical-health needs.
• Brownstown Central Community School Corporation reported that its new virtual high-school program using Ed Options had 15 students enrolled, while welding had nine students and the CDL program had about 20 students, including six from outside the district.
